Scholarships and funding opportunities

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office invites applications for its Chevening scholarships programme. Graduates who are citizens of African countries, such as South Africa, Nigeria, Botswana, and Kenya may apply. Scholarships include payment of tuition fees, a monthly stipend, travel to and from the UK, a homeward departure allowance, the cost of one visa application and a travel grant to attend Chevening events in the UK.

The Alliance for Accelerating Excellence in Science in Africa invites applications for its Sub-Saharan African network for TB/HIV research excellence (SANTHE) path-to-independence awards. Individuals with an academic or research appointment at an African institution of higher learning or research institute may apply. Awards are worth up to USD 100,000 each to cover direct costs.

The Council for the Development of Social Science Research in Africa invites applications for its call on profiles of higher education leaders in Africa, under the Higher Education Policy Initiative (HEPI). The call targets academics and institutions in six sub-Saharan African countries:

Ghana, Nigeria, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and South Africa. Applicants need to include an indication of the budget needed to accomplish the task.
